General Info

Tucked along 32A Victoria Street, Cambridge 3434, New Zealand, Happy Days Takeaway is the kind of fast food restaurant locals tend to return to again and again. The spot has a relaxed, casual vibe that makes it easy to drop in for a quick bite or grab a takeaway meal after a long day. From the moment you step inside, the atmosphere feels simple and welcoming-nothing fancy, just good food and friendly service that keeps the focus on the menu.

One of the things that stands out about Happy Days Takeaway is how straightforward and satisfying the food is. The BBQ Pork Bun (2pcs) is a favorite that many visitors notice right away. Soft, fluffy buns wrap around a sweet and savory pork filling that’s warm and comforting. It’s the kind of dish that works perfectly as a quick snack, but honestly, it’s hard to stop at just one order.

For something heartier, the Chicken Cashew Nut dish is another highlight that deserves attention. The combination of tender chicken pieces and crunchy cashews creates a balanced texture in every bite. The flavors are savory and well-rounded, making it a reliable choice whether you’re dining in or grabbing food to go. Meanwhile, the Char Siew Fried Noodles bring a satisfying, smoky flavor that many diners seem to love. The noodles are stir-fried with slices of char siew pork, delivering that classic takeaway taste that feels both filling and comforting.

Beyond the food itself, Happy Days Takeaway also scores well when it comes to convenience. The restaurant keeps things easy for customers with practical services such as credit card payments, which makes ordering smooth and hassle-free. There’s also a free parking lot, something visitors often appreciate when stopping by Victoria Street. Families will find the environment good for kids, and the casual setting means nobody feels rushed.

Another small but enjoyable detail is that the restaurant offers beer, which pairs nicely with many of the dishes on the menu. It adds a relaxed touch, especially for those who prefer to sit down and enjoy their meal rather than rushing off with takeaway.

Overall, Happy Days Takeaway feels like a dependable local diner where the focus is on simple, flavorful food and easy service. With its convenient location in Cambridge, a menu featuring satisfying dishes like BBQ Pork Bun, Chicken Cashew Nut, and Char Siew Fried Noodles, and practical amenities for visitors, it’s a place that naturally fits into everyday dining routines. Regulars, new visitors, and families alike often leave with the same impression: a straightforward restaurant serving comforting meals in a friendly, casual setting.

What customers say?

“ I don't know about in-store. but as some one who somewhat irregularly orders delivery, I have never been let down(well delivery guy got wrong house but who cares lets be real). I recommend the chicken burger. they sometimes give us extra potato fritter or something. Personal opinion but best priced/value/cooked fish and chips ”

“ I only ordered a scoop of chips, they were made fast. Tasted great and to top everything off they brought them out to my car in the rain when they were made.. this is 10/10 service definitely will be going back ”

“ Safe to say the best fish and chip shop style set in Cambridge by a long and delicious country mile is happy days. The feeling eating their food is quite literally in the name. I've never had something I crave for week after week. The portion sizes of everything is fantastic. From the exptional mouth watering battered fish some how one peice is easy devoured in seconds and your left thinking more yes please, so more ish you'll find your hand still reaching for there hot chips like it's now got a mind of its own. Burger don't mind if I do. Have successfully eaten my way throw them all. Crisp lettuce excellent quality and price range is outstanding. Then you've got your non standard items that will make you wonder if infact you've secretly been visiting the best kept secret Asian fast food restaurant ever. Their wonton soup is to die for. I find myself ordering once a week sometimes two. With incredible quality and value for money the devilishly more feeling it leaves you with every bite, a place you'll crave the food time and time again. ”

“ A great food stop on the way to Hobbiton tour. Ordered spicy boiled fish. Smelled amazing! The fish slices were so tender and there are lots of veggies come with it. Not to mention glass noodles. Since we were on a tight timeline, the chef was kind enough to offer a quick option for us. ”

“ We ordered the fish burger and were immensely pleased. Toasty bun, crispy fish and plenty of it, good amount of tartar, plus a slice of tomato. Excellent. Plus the hot chips were crispy and delicious. Get into it. Also bonus points for being open at lunch on a Tuesday in Cambridge which is rare in the fish and chip world of this waikato town. ”

“ One stop take away shop We have been staying in the Cambridge area for approx seven weeks. We discovered these guys on day one and have been visiting them at least 2 to 3 times a week for the last 7 weeks. For us they are definitely the one stop takeaway shop, with a wide variety of choices from Chinese dishes to Burgers and fish n Chips, something to please all palates. Our favourite choices were Chicken chow-mien and chop-suey, with Hawaiian burgers being a lunch favourite especially on a sunny day when we could enjoy the surroundings of Te Koutu Lake (see review). The weekend was always a fish n chip favourite. They never disappointed us and all meals were cooked to perfection. When we are back in the area we will definitely visit these guys again. Many thanks to Emily for her friendliness and top notch cooking - always knew it would be perfection when she was on the tools. ”

“ As a Chinese, I was told there is a secret menu for Chinese people who'r keen on authentic Chinese dishes rather than the "European Chinese things". The dishes stunned me, absolutely authentic !!!!! If you're not Chinese and willing to try what are really served in China. Try these to see if you fancy real Chinese common dishes: 1. Sauced cold noodles with chicken (鸡肉凉面)- refreshing, spicy with a little sweetness. - remember to mix the sauce with noodle thoroughly, mates 2. Wife and Husband Lung Slices. (夫妻肺片)- Nothing about wife and husband, neither about lungs. It's just sauced beef and tripe slices !!! - spicy, flavourful, absolute worth trying. A short story: A husband loved his wife so much and invented this dish for her, initially cooked with lung slices because they were poor...Later, this seasoning was spread widely and the ingredient was changed to beef and tripe slices. ”

“ Had the fish n chips and a fish burger. For the price, the product is pretty good. However compared to more expensive fish n chips, this restaurant doesn’t really compare. The fish burger was lacking enough condiments as well. Perhaps their Asian dishes are better, but I wasn’t that impressed with their fish n chips. But again, super cheap food, so wasn’t expecting superb quality. ”
